Omaha Division Diversion Group Creates Awareness in Communities
OMAHA, Neb., – Last week, the Omaha Division Diversion Group engaged local registrants through virtual presentations on topics including Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) guidance during civil unrest and regulations as they apply to veterinary clinics.
Minnesota District Office Diversion Group Supervisor Chenin Donahue provided a 30 minute virtual presentation Feb. 12, to Minnesota pharmacists, pharmacy board personnel and local law enforcement on DEA guidance for pharmacies during civil unrest. Approximately 25 people attended Donahue’s discussion as she covered topics including security options to prevent or deter theft, DEA processes for moving controlled substances and transferring schedule II-V prescriptions. Donahue talked about the lessons learned during a four week span, May 26 through June 16, which included an unprecedented 668 pharmacy break-ins, burglaries or thefts across the nation. At the end of the presentation, Donahue answered questions and provided participants with resources including DEA diversion websites and points of contact.
On Feb. 10, Diversion Program Manager Sarah Boblenz sat on a panel for the annual Veterinary Medical Association virtual conference answering questions relating to DEA regulations as they relate to clinics. Boblenz was among four panelists and talked about procedures veterinarians could implement to ensure security and record keeping and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Despite in-person restrictions put in place because of the pandemic, investigators and agents in the Omaha Division have found ways to stay engaged with communities through virtual meetings and conferences. Additional trainings and conferences are being scheduled for the weeks ahead.
