The Dankery owner sentenced to 10 years

DENVER, Colo. – Special Agent in Charge Deanne Reuter in conjunction with the Office of the District Attorney, 4th Judicial District of Colorado and lead prosecutor Rachel Powell announced January 21st that Kristopher Fowlkes owner of The Dankery and Colorado Springs resident, was sentenced to serve 10 years in Colorado Department of Corrections.

In October 2018, the Drug Enforcement Administration Colorado Springs Resident Office initiated an investigation into the unlawful distribution of marijuana in Colorado Springs. One of the suspects was identified as Kristopher Fowlkes, who was determined to be the owner of The Dankery Medical Marijuana Dispensary, located at 3745 Interpark Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

An undercover investigation was initiated into Fowlkes and The Dankery. Approximately 4.5 lbs. of refined marijuana and one quarter pound of marijuana concentrate was purchased from Fowlkes outside of the dispensary, additionally a total of approximately 7.5 lbs. of refined marijuana was purchased from an acquaintance of Fowlkes.

In addition to the illegally purchased marijuana and the marijuana gown in the dispensary, investigators identified multiple marijuana grow locations they suspected Fowlkes of maintaining.

This constituted a violation of Colorado Department of Revenue Marijuana Enforcement Division rules and regulations.

In August 2019, 13 search warrants were executed resulting in the seizure of over 600 lbs. of refined marijuana plant and plant concentrates and 4,000 unharvested marijuana plants. Additionally 4 firearms, to include a grenade launcher were seized during the search.

“DEA wants to send a message that people who manipulate and hide behind Colorado’s marijuana laws and sell multiple pounds of marijuana out of the back door of their dispensary will be punished,” Reuter said. “I believe this sentencing gets that message across.”

The sentence was pronounced by Judge Robin Chittum on January 21st, 2021. The guilty plea was entered on January 21, 2021. This case was investigated by the DEA. The defendants were prosecuted by Rachel Powell of the Office of the District Attorney, 4th Judicial District of Colorado.
