Celebrates Red Ribbon Week
NOV
26 -- The Boise RO started its Red Ribbon Celebration on
Tuesday, October 19, 2004 when Myrna Camarena-Covarrubias spoke to
several hundred parents and students at South Jr. High School in
Boise, Idaho.
From the 19th through the 22nd, Myrna and Boise RAC Larry
Hedberg spoke at eight school assemblies and two evening events at the
Idaho Hispanic Cultural Center in Nampa, Idaho. The first event on the
evening of the 20th was sponsored by Northwest Nazarene University and
DEA. The second event was sponsored by the Idaho Commission of Hispanic
Affairs and DEA and was attended by SAC Rodney G. Benson, Sheriff-Elect
of Ada County, the Colonel and his staff from the Idaho State Police,
as well as other law enforcement dignitaries and Hispanic civic leaders.
Myrna also appeared on all of the local network TV stations and a half
hour TV program called Eye on Idaho, hosted by Channel 2, a CBS affiliate.
Myrna’s visit was culminated with a rally at the steps of the
Idaho State Capitol. This one hour Red Ribbon event was televised live
by Channel 7, Boise’s NBC affiliate. Myrna; the Governor of Idaho,
Dirk Kempthorne; and, Boise Mayor Dave Bieter were featured speakers
at the event.
This event was sponsored by PAYADA, the Idaho National Guard, Channel
7, and DEA. This event was attended by hundreds of children from the
State of Idaho.
