Two
Drug Dealers Sentenced to Federal Prison
April 23 - Mark
R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration
in New England and Kevin J. O'Connor, United States Attorney for the
District of Connecticut, today announced that EDWIN NUNEZ, age 26,
formerly of New Britain, Connecticut, has been sentenced to 12 months
and one day of imprisonment to be followed by three years of supervised
release for his conviction on federal drug charges. United States District
Judge Christopher F. Droney sentenced NUNEZ yesterday, April 22, in
Hartford. NUNEZ is currently in state custody and Judge Droney ordered
that NUNEZ serve this sentence concurrently with his state sentence.
NUNEZ pleaded guilty
on June 18, 2003, admitting that in May 2002 he sold "stack" quantities
of stamped heroin (100 individual, single-dose
packages) to a confidential informant.
U.S. Attorney O'Connor
also announced that in a separate proceeding,
QUINTO MAPP, age 27, of 68 Taylor Drive, Hartford, Connecticut, was
sentenced to 54 months of imprisonment to be followed by three years
of
supervised release for his conviction on federal drug charges. Senior
United States District Judge Peter C. Dorsey sentenced MAPP yesterday
in
New Haven.
MAPP pleaded guilty
on December 2, 2003, admitting that on December 18, 2002, he possessed
with intent to distribute between 20 and 35
grams
of "crack" cocaine.
These cases were
investigated by members of a Drug Enforcement Administration
Task Force comprised of federal agents and members of several local
police departments. U.S. Attorney O'Connor praised the efforts of
the DEA
Task Force, stating "The federal government is committed to assisting
local police in removing drug dealers from the streets.
