Trains Over 100 Local And State Law Enforcement Officers

On October 19, 2006 the New York Field Division opened it doors to
over 100 law enforcement officers from across the Northeast. Generals,
Captains, Chiefs, Deputies, Investigators, Detectives and Police Officers
came to the DEA for an eight hour session to learn more about concealed
compartments and countersurveillance techniques. In addition, a primary
purpose of this seminar is for networking and intelligence sharing
between Federal, State and Local agencies.
The course, titled “Concealment
Techniques Course for Narcotic Supervisors” is a presentation
on concealment techniques utilized by criminal organizations throughout
the United States. This presentation reviews concealed compartments
built in vehicles, residences, furniture and commercial locations.
Highlights included reviewing a concealed compartment hidden in a fish
tank that had held $1,000,000 of drug proceeds. Additionally, the course
presents the techniques used by criminal organizations to avoid police
detection, such as concealed counter-surveillance devices and hidden
cameras.
The following law
enforcement departments were in attendance: New York State Police,
New York Police Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Jersey City
Police Department, Newark Police Department, Nassau County Police Department,
New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, Middletown Police Department,
West Orange Police Department, Mahwah Police Department, Bergen County
Police Department, Franklin Township Police Department, Vermont State
Police, New Jersey State Police and Patterson Police Department.
