Drug Transportation Network Broken Up In Youngstown
MAY 20--Youngstown, Ohio- The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Youngstown announced the dismantling of an elaborate and sophisticated cocaine distribution network based in Chicago, Illinois operating throughout the Midwest United States. This organization utilized luxury sport utility vehicles which were equipped with sophisticated hidden compartments to conceal large shipments of cocaine into the northeast Ohio region. During late April, information was developed that this organization was shipping a large quantity of cocaine from Chicago to Youngstown, Ohio for distribution. Using the most advanced law enforcement techniques available, agents were able to identify and locate three vehicles being used by the organization. Surveillance of these subjects led police to search all three vehicles resulting in the seizure of one-hundred and sixty-two (162) kilograms of cocaine with a wholesale street value of nearly $5 million. All eight individuals are charged with federal narcotics violations including: Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.
