DEA TO SPONSOR THE 1ST ANNUAL SPECIAL OLYMPICS CYCLING EVENT 

Phoenix – The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will sponsor the 1 st Annual Special Olympics Cycling Event to be held on Sunday, February 20, 2005 in Downtown Phoenix, near the State Capital.

The Special Olympics Cycling Event is part of the 13 th Annual VALLEY OF THE SUN (VOS) Stage Race held by the White Mountain Road Club. The premier event has become the largest attended, multi-day bicycle race in North America with over 850 cyclists and over 8,000 spectators.

This year’s first Special Olympics will feature 13 athletes and coaches who will line up to compete in a 25 minute bike race. This race will be the first opportunity for Special Olympic cyclists to compete in the 13 th Annual VOS Stage Race.

DEA is proud to host this event and benefit the communities by educating parents, teachers and children on the dangers of drugs and encouraging young adults for all the things they do well and for the positive choices they make.

DEA will display a booth with various drug-free brochures and anti-drug accessories. DEA representatives will be available to answers questions and provide information concerning drug awareness and drug prevention.

The VOS racing events will begin at 7:30 a.m. and conclude at approximately 4:00 p.m. The Special Olympics bike race will kick off start at 12:55 pm on Sunday.
