On July 17 through July 21, 2005 the DEA New Jersey Division in conjunction with the D.A.R.E New Jersey and the New Jersey National Guard sponsored the sixth annual D.A.R.E Leadership Camp in Lakewood, New Jersey. Approximately 100 students from around the state participated in this five-day camp. The campers were introduced to the many different areas of law enforcement and were also taught how to lead a drug and violence free lifestyle. The main theme of the camp was ‘teamwork.” The campers learned how to work together and trust one another to accomplish the tasks given to them. The campers also participated in numerous field trips which were meant to be fun and informational.

One of the most exciting field trips was to the DEA New Jersey Division in Newark. The campers were greeted by SAC Michael Pasterchick, Jr., and were given a tour of the office. The campers rotated through four areas in the DEA office: recruiting, firearms, defensive tactics and technical operations. The campers also were taken to McGuire Air Force Base and given a tour of the New Jersey National Guard facility. There, the campers had the opportunity to tour a KC 130 refueling aircraft.

The 2005 D.A.R.E Leadership Camp was a great success and a fun learning experience for everyone involved.
