Dr. Richard A. Mazur Pleads Guilty To Illegal Dispensing Of Controlled Substances
Mar 29--Dunn Lampton, U. S. Attorney for the Southern District of Mississippi, announced today RICHARD A. MAZUR, age 52, of Pass Christian, Mississippi pled guilty to (1) count of knowingly and intentionally dispensing a controlled substances outside the scope of professional practice. The plea was entered by Dr. MAZUR to United States District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr. at the Dan M. Russell, Jr., United States Courthouse, Gulfport, MS, prior to trial.
The U.S. Government's year long investigation revealed that Dr. MAZUR was prescribing controlled substances to patients, outside of the course of a legitimate medical practice and in violation of both federal and state law.
Dr. MAZUR was represented by Federal public defenders George Lucas of Jackson and John WEbber of Gulfport. Assistant United States Attorney John Meynardie prosecuted the case for the United States.
The investigating agencies included the Drug Enforcement Administration, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Coastal Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure.
