Several People Arrested in "Operation Ship To Shore"
Today the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Miami, together with the U.S. Attorney's Office (USAO) and the Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) announce the arrest of several defendants primarily in the Broward County area on Saturday, January 25, 2003.
The arrests were part of an enforcement action known as OPERATION SHIP TO SHORE. This case is an international investigation involving the smuggling of cocaine via the cruiselines. Several Jamaican Nationals living in South Florida ran this organization.
The Initial Appearance for the arrested defendants is scheduled for 11:00A.M. at the Fort Lauderdale Federal Courthouse, located at 299 East Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. Public Information Officers (PIO's) from the USAO, DEA, and BSO will be available at 2:00 P.M. outside the Fort Lauderdale Federal Courthouse for informal interviews.
Stations interested in obtaining video taken by DEA of the events connected with this investigation should send their live trucks to the Fort Lauderdale Federal Courthouse at 2:00 P.M. to dub the tape from mini digital video form to your stations format. The tape is six minutes in length. Please credit the footage provided by the DEA in your newscasts.
