Elementary School Unveils Mural Honoring DEA Agent Kiki Camarena
On
February 18, 2003 at 1:00pm at the Legonia Elementary School located at
202 East Pennsylvania Ave., Redlands, California, a mural honoring DEA
Special Agent Enrique Camarena will be unveiled in the garden atrium within
the school grounds. The mural depicts DEA S/A Camarena, who was abducted,
tortured and killed by drug traffickers in Mexico in 1985.
Mrs. Diana Holly and her 5th grade class have participated in a campaign to petition the US Postal Service to recognize Camarena with a US Postal Stamp in his honor. The students of Legonia Elementary hope that the mural will bring the anti-drug message to generations of school students and a community awareness of their efforts. A local fire department will serve as the honor guard for the ceremony. Members of the Camarena family as well as DEA officials from the Los Angeles Field Division and the El Paso Intelligence Center will be present. Questions regarding this event may be directed to Mrs. D. Holly at 909-307-5560.
If you have questions or need further information, please contact Special Agent Jose Martinez, DEA Public Affairs, at 213.621.6714.
