Dallas Red Ribbon Celebration

DEA Dallas had a fantastic time sharing the Red Ribbon Story and interacting with 1,200 school kids from the Dallas Independent School District on October 27th, 2003. The master of ceremonies for the day was an entertaining and energetic retired police officer from the Austin Police Department who calls himself POLICE ICE. POLICE ICE introduced SAC Sherri Strange who told the kids a personal story about her memory of Enrique Camerana. Dr. Mike Moses, Dallas Independent School District Superintendent welcomed his kids and told them how proud he was of them and their dedication to making healthy choices and living a drug free life.

The kids were entertained with drug prevention messages from Straightway, a rehabilitation group who performs rap music with a strong anti-drug message. After the program, the kids had snacks donated by Frito-Lay and Coca-Cola. The Dallas Police Department had a great display of law enforcement gear for the kids to see up close. After an opportunity to view the DEA exhibit TARGET AMERICA: Traffickers, Terrorists and You, the kids expressed their thoughts by writing their anti-drug message on 4X4 tiles. The tiles will become part of the DEA Dallas Field Division as a display wall.

The 2003 Red Ribbon Celebration was a huge success mostly due to the participation of several agents and support personnel who went beyond what was required of them. DEA personnel represented the agency in a positive way and in an enthusiastic manner and displayed a great team spirit.
