The efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration to hinder drug trafficking and drug use utilizes the combined help of fellow law enforcement officials and citizens in the communities they serve. WGN-TV recently covered a joint training operation, which stressed the sharing of resources among law enforcement officials and allowed television viewers to better understand the duties of those enforcing drug laws in their communities. Participants in the day of training included the U.S. Marshal's Service, Chicago Police Department, Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS), Illinois State Police, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The training stressed joint law enforcement cooperation as a necessity in solving critical incidents safely, quickly, and efficiently. Officials involved were forced to quickly solve a variety of high-risk situations, from narcotic and fugitive apprehension warrants to school shootings and terrorist threats. WGN-TV reporter Juan Carlos Fanjul participated in several of the training scenarios for a first-hand look at the complexities of training law enforcement officials to respond to real life emergencies.
