Hartford Felon Sentenced to More Than
11 Years on Federal Drug, Gun Charges

DEC 16--June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that TYLON GEORGE, age 30, of 67C Congress Street, Hartford, was sentenced yesterday, December 15, by United States District Judge Christopher F. Droney in Hartford to 135 months imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release.  On January 10, 2005, GEORGE pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of cocaine base (“crack cocaine”) and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, GEORGE was arrested on December 10, 2003 by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, at which time he was in possession of approximately 25 grams of crack cocaine.  A subsequent search of his residence resulted in the seizure of an additional 50 grams of crack cocaine, a Kel-Tec Sub 2000 .40 caliber rifle with an obliterated serial number and a magazine with nine live rounds.

GEORGE was previously convicted in Connecticut Superior Court of assault of public safety or emergency medical personnel.  It is a violation of federal law for a person previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.

United States Attorney O’Connor noted that this prosecution is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative.  This program is aimed at reducing gun violence, deterring illegal possession of guns, and improving the safety of residents throughout Connecticut.  Participants in the initiative include community members and organizations as well as state, federal and local law enforcement agencies.

This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms and Explosives and officers of the Hartford Police Department.
