Middlefield Woman Who Accessed Criminal Computer System
for Her Cocaine Supplier is Sentenced

June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced that LINDA ZONA, age 49, of 102 Long Hill Road, Middlefield, Connecticut, was sentenced yesterday, November 14, by United States District Judge Christopher F. Droney in Hartford to three years of probation, the first six months of which she must spend confined to her home. On November 12, 2004, ZONA pleaded guilty to one count of using a telephone to facilitate a narcotics felony.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, ZONA admitted that, on January 14, 2004, at the request of Carlos Anglero, her cocaine supplier, she ran multiple checks in the state’s criminal computer system to see if an individual known to Anglero had been arrested. Through her employment as a dispatcher at Connecticut Valley Hospital, ZONA was authorized to access the criminal computer system. ZONA was subsequently dismissed from her employment.

ZONA also admitted that she regularly purchased cocaine from Anglero between September 2003 and February 2004. Anglero pleaded guilty to a cocaine distribution conspiracy in November 2004 and is awaiting sentencing.

This case was investigated by members of a Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, which includes federal agents and members of several local police departments.
