Middletown Cocaine Trafficker Sentenced to Federal Prison

June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that RICHARD MATOS, age 31, of 594 Main Street, Middletown, Connecticut, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Christopher F. Droney in Hartford to 27 months of imprisonment followed by six years of supervised release. On November 4, 2004, MATOS pleaded guilty to one count of an Indictment charging him with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute and distribution of cocaine.

According to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, between September 2003 and February 2004, MATOS and others distributed between 200 and 300 grams of cocaine. Six other individuals have pleaded guilty to roles in this narcotics conspiracy and await sentencing.

“Thanks to the diligent efforts of this DEA Task Force, a significant Middletown-based cocaine distribution ring has been dismantled,” U.S. Attorney O’Connor stated.

This case was investigated by members of a Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, which includes federal agents and members of several local police departments.
