Springfield Man Sentenced for Distributing Cocaine

Springfield, MA….A Springfield man was sentenced on Friday, June 6, 2003, in federal court for distributing cocaine.

Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration in New England and United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan announced that Miguel SANTIAGO, age 35, of Springfield, Massachusetts, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to 11 years’ imprisonment, to be followed by 5 years of supervised release. SANTIAGO pleaded guilty on March 3, 2003 to distributing cocaine and conspiring to distribute cocaine and crack cocaine.

At the earlier hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that, had the case proceeded to trial, the Government’s evidence would have proven that when SANTIAGO was arrested on March 21, 2002, he had over half a kilogram of cocaine in his car. Further, when SANTIAGO’s apartment was searched the same day, DEA “buy money” was found in his bedroom which had been used in an earlier crack cocaine deal on March 6, 2002.

The case was investigated by the Springfield U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force.
