Marion
Man Indicted In Crack Cocaine Conspiracy

15 -- (BENTON, IL) - A. Courtney
Cox, United States Attorney for the
Southern District of Illinois, announced
today that LATOYA M. McDANIEL, age
23, of Marion, Illinois, was indicted
by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in
Benton, Illinois, in a one-count indictment
charging her with conspiracy to distribute
crack cocaine. The violation is alleged
to have taken place between May 2007
and October 2009, in Jackson and Williamson
Counties.
The
offense carries a penalty of between
5 and 40 years’ imprisonment,
a fine of up to $2,000,000, and a term
of 4 years’ supervised release.
McDANIEL made her initial appearance
in federal court on June 14, 2010, and
was ordered held without bond pending
a jury trial, which is currently scheduled
for August 16, 2010.
The
investigation was conducted by the Jackson
County Sheriff’s Office, Murphysboro
Police Department, and Drug Enforcement
Administration pursuant to their participation
in the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative
for the Southern District of Illinois.
The Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative
is a cooperative effort of local, state,
and federal law enforcement, and state
and federal prosecuting authorities,
aimed at ridding communities of illegal
drugs and guns.
The
case is assigned to Assistant United
States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson
for prosecution. |
