Three
San Jose Residents Arrested, 50k In Ecstasy Seized
DEA also seizes methamphetamine, marijuana, and $2,500
in cash

(SAN JOSE, CA) – Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special
Agent in Charge Javier F. Peña, Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie
Smith, and United States Attorney Kevin V. Ryan announced that a federal
grand jury has indicted Lien Thi LE, 38, Tiana LA, 41 and Phuong Nhat-Tuan
LE, 21, all of San Jose, for conspiracy to distribute ecstasy and possession
with intent to distribute ecstasy.
This investigation
culminated on January 19, 2007, when law enforcement arrested the three
individuals without incident and seized approximately 2,500 tablets
or $50,000 worth of ecstasy, small amounts of “ice” methamphetamine
and marijuana, and approximately $2,500 in cash.
According to court
documents filed in the case on January 19, Lien Thi LE and Tiana LA,
met with an undercover officer to deliver 2,000 tablets of ecstasy
to him. Agents learned the ecstasy was contained in another vehicle
driven by Phuong Nhat-Tuan LE. Inside the vehicle agents located 2,000
ecstasy tablets and seized approximately $2,500 in cash from Tiana
LA. A subsequent search of LA’s residence located on Spanish
Court, in San Jose turned up approximately 500 ecstasy tablets, and
small amounts of “ice” methamphetamine and marijuana.
“Ecstasy is
a dangerous drug which is marketed toward our youth and while it may
have a candy-like appearance, we know far to well the effects of the
drug is anything but sweet,” stated DEA Special Agent in Charge
Javier F. Pena. “Today we serve notice that the DEA will continue
to work with our partners in law enforcement to keep ecstasy and other
drugs off the street and out of the hands of our children.”
This investigation
was conducted by the DEA’s San Jose Resident Office and the Santa
Clara County Sheriff’s Office. The defendants face up to 20 years
in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted.
