DEA, FBI and USMS Memorial Service
Lester
Martz, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and
Firearms(ATF); Keith L. Bennett, Acting Special Agent in Charge of
the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); Timothy J. Landrum, Special
Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and United
States Marshal David Gonzales announce the seventh annual Special Agents'
Memorial Service to honor Special Agents of the ATF, DEA, FBI and USMS
who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
The keynote speaker
for this year's service will be U. S. Attorney Paul K. Charlton, who
was appointed by President George W. Bush on November 12, 2001, and
confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the United States Attorney for the
District of Arizona.
U.S. Attorney Charlton
has made a career out of serving the public and protecting the interests
of victims in the State of Arizona. Prior to his appointment and since
1991, U.S. Attorney Charlton was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the
District of Arizona prosecuting cases ranging from homicide to white
collar offenses. Charlton also served the citizens of Arizona in the
Arizona Attorney General’s Office as an Assistant Attorney General
assigned to the Organized Crime and Racketeering Division.
This year’s
ceremony will include a tribute to federal officers killed in the line
of duty, musical selections performed by Kristy Thomas-Hall and the
DEA Black & Gold bagpipes with the assistance of Phoenix Fire Department
Pipe and Drum.
The ceremony will
commence at 10 a.m. on May 11, 2006, in the red brick building just
south of the FBI office, 201 East Indianola, Phoenix, Arizona. Those
planning to attend should arrive no later than 9:45 a.m. to allow time
to check in and set up equipment without detracting from the solemnity
of the event.
Parking will be
available in the vicinity. (Guards on FBI premises will direct attendees
toward parking, if needed.) This ceremony will last an estimated hour.
