On May 2, 2006 hundreds gathered to honor the courage of men and women in law enforcement, who put their lives on the line every day in defense of all of us and for our freedom. The Federal Law Enforcement Foundation (FLEF) is a foundation that provides economic assistance to both federal and local law enforcement officers suffering from serious illness and to communities recovering from natural disasters. Every year, since 1998, the FLEF pays tribute to the families of law enforcement agents and officers who have lost a loved one in the line of duty. The Agents and Officers killed that were honored at this event were the following:

Everett Hatcher, DEA	Christopher Hoban, NYPD
Johnny Massengale, ATF	Gary Kubasiak, NYSP
William Chirstian, Jr., FBI	Norman Sheriff, USMS
David Wilhelm, ICE	Aldo Frascoia, USSS
Philip Lamonaco, NJSP

Special Agent in Charge John P. Gilbride escorted the Hatcher family; Maryjane, Zach and Josh to the event. The Hatcher family was honored along with the eight other families by hundreds in attendance as well as Colin Powell.

The NYFD was responsible for escorting Colin Powell to the event for his keynote address. The security team performed above and beyond duty along with their counterparts in the USSS and FBI.

SAC Gilbride thanked the FLEF for hosting this event and stated, “Those that die in the line of duty do so to keep our children safe. Safe from fear, safe from drugs, safe from terrorism, safe from crime. We as parents, brothers, sisters need to always remember what they have done and honor them in our hearts.”
