New
Orleans Man Sentenced To 10 Years In Federal
Prison For Narcotics and Weapons Violations
MAY
18 -- NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA -
JACKIE RAY MOORE, age 27, a resident of
New Orleans, Louisiana, was sentenced May
12, 2010 by U. S. District Judge Stanwood
R. Duval, Jr. to ten (10) years (120 months)
imprisonment for possession with the intent
to distribute five grams or more of crack
cocaine, possession of a firearm by a convicted
felon, and possession of a firearm in furtherance
of a drug trafficking crime, announced
U. S Attorney Jim Letten. Judge Duval also
imposed five (5) years of supervised release
following the term of imprisonment, during
which time, the defendant will be under
federal supervision and risks an additional
term of imprisonment should he violate
any terms of his supervised release.
On December 9, 2009, JACKIE RAY MOORE pled guilty
to a three count superseding indictment, admitting
that on March 31, 2009, he was approached by New
Orleans Police Officers while sitting in a vehicle
without a visible license plate. When asked to step
out of the vehicle, MOORE attempted to flee and was
quickly apprehended. During a subsequent search of
the vehicle, officers located a loaded .38 caliber
Derringer pistol as well as 24 pieces of crack cocaine.
Officers also discovered that MOORE had two outstanding
warrants. The investigation also revealed that MOORE
was previously convicted of Possession of Cocaine
in Orleans Parish in November, 2000.
After sentencing, MOORE was remanded to the custody
of the United States Marshal’s Service to begin
his term of imprisonment.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the
Drug Enforcement Administration along with officers
from the New Orleans Police Department. The case
was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney
Rick Veters. |
