In an effort to continue its Anti-Meth Initiative throughout the State
of New Jersey, Gerard P. McAleer, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug
Enforcement Administration, New Jersey Division, presented a one day
Methamphetamine Safety and Awareness Course for First Responders conducted
by members of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New Jersey Division
at the Middlesex County Police and Fire Academy located in Sayreville,
New Jersey.
Joining the attendees
for the training were two congressional staff members from Congressmen
Christopher H. Smith (R-4th) and Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-6th).
This training program
is designed to prepare the police officer, firefighter, EMT, prevention,
treatment, school personnel and faith based organizations to recognize
specialized problems and hazards associated with the production of
methamphetamine. Topics which were discussed include History and Effects
of Methamphetamine, Emerging Trends in Methamphetamine Production,
Fentanyl Update, Clandestine Laboratories Awareness, and Public Awareness.
The objective of this course is to enable the first responder emergency
personnel to be able to recognize and identify a methamphetamine or
clandestine laboratory while answering a fire, medical, or other emergency
call and apply techniques for overall safety.
