Man Sentenced to 14 years for Crack Cocaine
Distribution Conspiracy in Atlantic County

CAMDEN – GERARD P. MCALEER, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New Jersey Division and CHRISTOPHER J. CHRISTIE the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, announced that Ariel Javier, an illegal alien from the Dominican Republic was sentenced today to 170 months in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute approximately 700 grams of crack cocaine at a hotel in Egg Harbor Township.

Special Agent in Charge (SAC) McAleer stated, “DEA will continue to investigate and arrest any and all that distribute illegal narcotics throughout New Jersey. Further SAC McAleer commended the agents and investigators at the DEA Atlantic City Resident Office, Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Egg Harbor Township Police Department, along with the United States Attorney’s Office that assisted in this investigation.”

U.S. District Judge Robert B. Kugler also ordered Ariel Javier, 28, to serve five years of supervised release upon completion of his prison sentence.

Javier pleaded guilty on Feb. 15 before Judge Kugler to one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 50 grams of crack cocaine.

At his plea hearing, Javier admitted his involvement in a drug conspiracy in which he agreed with others, including a cocaine supplier, to distribute crack cocaine in the Atlantic County area.

Javier admitted that in February 2005 he conspired with the supplier and others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute approximately 700 grams of crack cocaine.

Javier admitted he obtained the 700 grams of crack cocaine from the supplier and arranged to sell it to an individual he knew as “Carlos,” whom he later learned was a police informant. Javier admitted that he arranged the sale through several telephone conversations with Carlos to take place at a Days Inn in Atlantic County on Feb. 11, 2005.

Upon arrival at the hotel, Javier admitted that the individual he knew as Carlos entered the vehicle with him. Javier then removed a plastic package containing the approximate 700 grams of crack cocaine from under his seat and placed it on the center console of the van for Carlos to examine. After Carlos examined the crack cocaine, Javier placed the plastic package containing the crack cocaine inside his pants and exited the van with Carlos to retrieve payment for the crack cocaine.

Javier also admitted that on three separate occasions in October 2004, the supplier provided him with approximately two ounces of powder cocaine; and on two separate occasions in November, 2004, the supplier provided him with approximately two ounces of crack cocaine, which he in turn sold to Carlos.

Christie credited Special Agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Gerard P. McAleer in Newark, for investigation of the case.
