SEP
25 -- On
August 6, 2008, the Drug Enforcement Administration,
Houston Division Office, Houston Crackdown,
a Division of the Mayor’s Office and
Clear Channel Communications, sponsored the
annual “Community Stars” Program.
The “Community Stars” Program
recognizes organizations, coalitions, educational
institutions, law enforcement agencies and
individuals who are involved with preventing,
treating and leading the efforts to eradicate
drugs in our communities. Recognized at this
years program were Tristan Love, a student
who received the Outstanding Youth Award;
the Council on Alcohol and Drugs, Student
2 Student Peer Mentor Program, who received
the Peer Mentoring Program Award and The
Texas Association of Partners in Education
who received the Youth Service Organization
Award. These organizations established a
unique program which works toward reducing
drug abuse while making our communities a
safer place to live. The honorees were recognized
by Associate SAC Joseph M. Arabit and Houston
City Council member Peter Brown. As a reminder
of DEA’s
commitment to drug education and prevention,
the Houston Division Office will display
a full size billboard representing the Houston
skyline, with the names of the 2008 Community
Stars Award recipients. The honorees will
also be recognized on a duplicate full size
billboard in their community. This billboard
will expose the community to the efforts made
by each honoree, and will promote others to be
involved in efforts to eradicate drugs in their
communities.
