Red Ribbon Rally “Houston Kickoff”

Houston area 5th and 6th grade students will participate in the “Houston
Kickoff” portion of the Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Red
Ribbon Rally at the Northwest Mall. The students will then journey
by bus to Austin, Texas to participate in an anti-drug program at the
State Capitol Building along with other students from the Dallas, Austin,
and San Antonio areas. The students will then participate in a “mock” legislative
discussion and prepare their own version of a Drug Prevention Bill
for Texas. This year marks the 21st Anniversary of the death of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena,
a DEA Special Agent who was murdered in Mexico by narcotics traffickers
in 1985. The Red Ribbon Program was initiated as a tribute to Camarena’s
legacy. The program will also include remarks from participating agency
representatives.
