Kentucky “Ecstasy” Distributor
Sentenced To 6 Years In Federal Prison
- 4,000 MDMA pills seized in joint DEA
and U.S. Postal Inspection Service investigation
MAR
23 -- (Louisville, KY) - Candace
G. Hill, United States Attorney for the
Western District of Kentucky, announced
that on March 22, 2010, Troy Thornton,
of Louisville, Kentucky, was sentenced
in U.S. District Court, by Judge Charles
R. Simpson III, to 6 years imprisonment
for conspiracy to distribute methylenedioxymethamphetamine
(MDMA, also known as “ecstasy”).
The
Indictment, which was filed on June 1, 2009,
alleged that between July 1, 2008, and January
16, 2009, Thornton conspired to distribute
MDMA in the Western District of Kentucky.
A joint investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement
Administration (DEA) and the U.S. Postal
Inspection Service revealed that Thornton
had been receiving shipments of MDMA tablets
through the mail from a Thai drug trafficking
organization in Fresno, California. Approximately
4,000 tablets were actually seized during
the investigation. Thornton entered a guilty
plea on December 18, 2009.
The
case was prosecuted by Assistant United States
Attorney Larry Fentress, and it was investigated
by the DEA and the United States Postal Inspection
Service.
