Man Sentenced To Life Imprisonment On Federal
Drug Trafficking Charges
MAR
22 -- (Boston, MA) - A Boston
man was sentenced today in federal court
to life in prison on drug trafficking charges.
Steven
W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug
Enforcement Administration - Boston Field
Division, United States Attorney Carmen M.
Ortiz, and Chief Steven B. Carl of the Framingham
Police Department, announced today that CHARLES
DOUTRE, 30, of Mattapan, was sentenced today
in federal court to life imprisonment on
federal drug trafficking charges.
CHARLES
DOUTE and a co-defendant, KEVIN CARVAHLO,
25, of Boston, MA, were previously convicted
after a jury trial of conspiracy to possess
with intent to distribute more than 50 grams
of cocaine base, also known as “crack
cocaine” and possession with intent
to distribute cocaine base.
Evidence
presented at the five-day trial showed that,
during early 2008, DOUTRE and CARVAHLO used
an apartment in Framingham as a central distribution
location for their crack cocaine trafficking
business. On February 1, 2008, DOUTRE and
CARVAHLO were arrested by Framingham Police
Department narcotics detectives who seized
57 grams of crack cocaine and a large amount
of cash from DOUTRE and CARVAHLO and from
their car. DOUTRE was sentenced today to
a mandatory term of imprisonment by United
States District Court Judge Patti B. Saris.
The
sentence was based on a combination of the
drug weight, over 50 grams of cocaine base,
and DOUTRE’s prior criminal record,
which included two prior felony drug convictions,
as well as three prior felony convictions
for crimes of violence. CARVAHLO was previously
sentenced by Judge Saris to 10 years in prison.
The
case was investigated by the Framingham Police
Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
