Stamford
Man
Pleads
Guilty
to
Illegal
Gun
Possession

Administration
in New
England
and
Kevin
J. O’Connor,
United
States
for
the
District
of Connecticut,
announced
that
LUIS
COLON,
age
22,
of 145
Spruce
Street,
Stamford,
Connecticut,
waived
his
right
to indictment
and
pleaded
guilty
today
before
United
States
District
Judge
Janet
Bond
Arterton
in New
Haven
to one
count
of possession
of a
firearm
by a
previously
convicted
felon.
According
to documents
filed
with the
Court
and statements
made in
court,
on September
28, 2006,
COLON
distributed
a sawed-off
shotgun
to two
individuals
at 91
Finney
Lane in
Stamford.
Later
that day,
the two
individuals
sold the
firearm
to an
individual
cooperating
with law
enforcement.
COLON
previously
was convicted
in the
State
of Connecticut
of possession
of a weapon
in a motor
vehicle.
It is
a violation
of federal
law for
a person
previously
convicted
of a felony
to possess
a firearm
that has
moved
in interstate
or foreign
commerce.
Judge
Arterton
has scheduled
sentencing
for September
17, 2007,
at which
time COLON
faces
a maximum
term of
imprisonment
of 10
years
and a
fine of
up to
$250,000.
This
case was
investigated
by the
Bureau
of Alcohol,
Tobacco,
Firearms,
and Explosives,
the Drug
Enforcement
Administration,
and the
Stamford
Police
Department.
