East
Hartford Man Indicted For Allegedly Distributing Ecstacy
MAR
7 -- June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug
Enforcement Administration in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor,
United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced
that a federal grand jury sitting in Hartford has returned an Indictment
charging DANIEL DRUMMOND, age 36, of 252 Ellington Road, East Hartford,
Connecticut, with one count of possession with the intent to distribute
MDMA, more commonly known as ecstacy. The Indictment was returned
on February 28, 2007, and DRUMMOND was presented in federal court
in Hartford on the charge on March 2, 2007. After a detention hearing
today before United States Magistrate Judge Donna F. Martinez, DRUMMOND
was detained in federal custody pending trial. Jury selection is
currently scheduled for May 8, 2007.
According
to statements made in court, the charge in the Indictment stems from
the seizure of approximately 32,000 ecstacy pills from DRUMMOND’s
person and a New Britain stash house on April 11, 2006.
The
Indictment also seeks forfeiture of DRUMMOND’s residence at 252
Ellington Road. If convicted, DRUMMOND faces a maximum term of imprisonment
of 20 years and a fine of up to $1,000,000. U.S. Attorney O’Connor
stressed that an indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of
guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the Government’s
burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
This
case was investigated by the Hartford Resident Office of the Drug Enforcement
Administration, with assistance from the New Britain Police Department,
the Manchester Police Department and the East Hartford Police Department.
