Man Pleads Admits Distributing "Date Rape" Drug
June
W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration
in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor, United States Attorney
for the District of Connecticut, announced that DONALD DAVIS, JR.,
age 40, of 20 Highwood Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut, pleaded guilty
today before United States District Judge Mark R. Kravitz in New Haven
to one count of conspiracy to distribute gamma butyrolactone (“GBL”),
which is commonly used as a “date rape” drug.
According
to documents filed with the Court and statements made in court, in
May 2005, law enforcement officers executed a search and arrest warrant
at DAVIS’ Norwalk residence and seized narcotics paraphernalia
and significant quantities of GBL. Officers also seized DAVIS’ personal
computer, a subsequent search of which revealed that DAVIS had used
the internet, including a bulletin board called “The Global Connection,” to
facilitate sales of the “date rape” drug.
Judge
Kravitz has scheduled sentencing for, January 9, 2007, at which time
DAVIS faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of
up to $1,000,000. During the guilty plea proceeding, DAVIS admitted
that he had used his residence to commit and facilitate the commission
of his distribution of GBL, thus subjecting his residence to forfeiture
under federal law. DAVIS has agreed to forfeit $80,000 as a substitute
for forfeiture of his residence.
U.S.
Attorney O’Connor commended the investigation of this matter
that was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, United States
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the United States Postal
Inspection Service and the Norwalk Police Department.
