Arizona
Man Sentenced To More Than Six Years
For Distributing Meth In Connecticut
AUG
1 -- June W. Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge of the
Drug Enforcement Administration in New England and Kevin J. O’Connor,
United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, today announced
that KORTNEY JAY FRANZEN, formerly of Phoenix, Arizona, was sentenced
today by United States District Judge Christopher F. Droney in
Hartford to 78 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of
supervised release, for conspiring to distribute and to possess
with intent to distribute methamphetamine. FRANZEN pleaded guilty
to the charges on October 31, 2005.
According
to documents filed with the court and statements made in court, FRANZEN
admitted to having participated in a substantial methamphetamine
distribution conspiracy. Part of that conspiracy involved FRANZEN’s
distribution of several pounds of methamphetamine to a Connecticut
co-conspirator in late 2004 and January 2005. In or around October
2004, FRANZEN shipped via courier services pound-level quantities
of methamphetamine to his Connecticut-based co-conspirator. In January
2005, FRANZEN personally delivered approximately two pounds of methamphetamine
to the same co-conspirator by driving the drugs from Arizona to Connecticut.
FRANZEN also was involved in the distribution of substantial quantities
of methamphetamine to individuals in other parts of the country.
This
case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s
High Intensity Drug Trafficking Task Force based in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
