Marijuana, Meth, Weapons And US Currency Seized Four Arrested

(BOONVILLE, CA) – The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Santa Rosa Resident Office and the Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement (BNE) San Francisco Office announce the seizure of approximately 740 lbs. marijuana, 190 marijuana plants, 1 ½ pounds of “ice” methamphetamine, 16 weapons and approximately $15,700 U.S. Currency.

"These gentlemen have given new meaning to the word, 'high-way'. Fortunately for the citizens of Boonville, this highway only traveled in one direction - to a jail cell," said DEA Special Agent in Charge Javier F. Peña. "Anytime we find marijuana grows and processing facilities in a rural area, we are concerned about the possible effects it could have on the local community. Drugs and guns usually have tragic consequences, but in this case because of the quick action by the DEA and our federal and local partners, we probably prevented a lot of worst-case scenarios from occurring."

This case is the product of an extensive investigation between the DEA, BNE, CHP, ICE, FBI, Petaluma Police Department, Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department, Mendocino County Narcotics Task Force and U.S. Forest Service. On October 31, 2005, at approximately 7:00 a.m., law enforcement served two state authorized search warrants on the 13200 block of Anderson Valley Way and the 13700 block of Highway 128, both in Boonville.

Law enforcement encountered a large outdoor marijuana growing and processing operation at the Highway 128 location. It was at this location where approximately 720 lbs. marijuana, 190 marijuana plants ranging from 1 to 12 feet in height, 1 ½ pounds of “ice” methamphetamine, approximately $15,700 U.S. Currency and 15 weapons were seized. The weapons seized are described as revolvers and rifles; some were loaded at the time of seizure. Arrested at the location were Sergio Liavanos, 26, Jamie Diaz, 36, both of Boonville and Pedro Campos Peña, 38, Ulises Rojas Paniagua, 27, both of Santa Rosa. Agents seized approximately 20 pounds of marijuana and a loaded shotgun at the Anderson Valley Way location.

All defendants were booked into the Mendocino County jail and are currently being held on immigration violations. It is anticipated that the above individuals will be charged with federal drug violations; however, this investigation is on-going.
