Stephen G. Azzam was appointed as Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in February 2016. As the Special Agent in Charge, Mr. Azzam is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of offices in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas.
Mr. Azzam previously served as Associate Special Agent in Charge of the Los Angeles Field Division from October 2012 to February 2016. In that role, he was responsible for over 800 employees in the Division, which included the offices of Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange County and Ventura in California; Las Vegas and Reno in Nevada; Honolulu and Maui in Hawaii; and Hagatna in Guam. He was instrumental in implementing a Strike Force for the Division.
Mr. Azzam served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Riverside Resident Office from April 2004 to October 2012. While serving in that role, he was responsible for all enforcement groups in the office, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the office.
Mr. Azzam has also served in a variety other positions within DEA, including Senior Inspector in the Office of Security Programs in the Inspection Division from January 2002 to April 2004. While serving as Senior Inspector, he developed and implemented DEA policies for personnel and physical security. He enforced compliance with these policies through a series of inspection, training, investigation, and emergency preparedness programs.
Mr. Azzam was assigned to the Inspection Division, Office of Inspections from January 2001 to July 2002. While serving as an Inspector, he managed, directed, and oversaw DEA's Self-Inspection Program. He performed reviews on specific programs, issues, activities, individuals and promotional policies.
Mr. Azzam served as Group Supervisor of a Task Force Group in the Riverside Resident Office from June 1997 to January 2001, where he directed the enforcement and operational activities of the group.
Mr. Azzam began his career with DEA in February 1987 in the Los Angeles Field Division, where he worked numerous investigations in a Federal Gang Task Force targeting violent drug traffickers. In January 1991, Mr. Azzam transferred to the Riverside, California Resident Office.
Mr. Azzam is a native of Michigan, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California State University in Los Angeles, California.
