The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will be hosting two regional one-day Practitioner Diversion Awareness Conferences (PDAC) on Monday, December 16, and Tuesday, December 17, 2019.  The same conference will be held both days.  Participants can attend either day. The conferences will be held at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham, 1000 Riverchase Galleria, Birmingham, Alabama 35244.

The diversion of pharmaceutical controlled substances throughout the United States is a growing problem.  This diversion stems from various sources.  In addition to pharmacy robberies and thefts, pharmaceutical controlled substances are often diverted by way of forged prescriptions, doctor shoppers, or illegitimate prescriptions from rogue practitioners.  The PDAC is designed to assist DEA registered Practitioners (e.g. doctors, veterinarians, dentists, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners) in identifying and preventing diversion activity.

There is no registration fee for these conferences.  However, attendees will be responsible for their own transportation, lodging, and meal expenses.  Information about nearby restaurants will be provided at the conference.

If you wish to reserve a room at the hotel, you can call the hotel directly at (205)-705-1234.

The closest airport is the Birmingham/Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), which is 20 miles from the hotel.  The hotel offers complimentary transportation to/from hotel/airport.  Reservation can be made by calling 205-444-5796.  Alternate options: Uber/Lyft, and/or Taxi.

Each one-day conference will be held in the Wynfrey Ballroom, located on the second floor, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.  You must check in with DEA personnel before the start of the conference.  Conference check-in will be from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. each day outside of the ballroom.

NOTE:  You must be a DEA registered Practitioner (e.g. doctor, veterinarian, dentist, physician assistant, and/or nurse practitioner) in the state of Alabama in order to attend this conference.
