Steven L. Hofer was appointed as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) New Orleans Division (NOD) in February 2024. In this role, he oversees 18 offices across Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, directing and coordinating all DEA operations within the region.
Prior to joining the DEA, SAC Hofer served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army for more than ten years. His distinguished military career included a tour as a company commander in Ramadi, Iraq, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
SAC Hofer's military experience honed his leadership skills and instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and commitment to public service. He brings these invaluable qualities to his role at the DEA, where he is responsible for leading and motivating a team of dedicated agents and staff.
SAC Hofer's law enforcement career with the DEA commenced in 2004. His previous assignments include Group Supervisor in the Springfield, Missouri office, where he led a task force specializing in investigating gang-related violent drug trafficking organizations. From 2020 to 2022, he played a pivotal role at DEA Headquarters, assisting with nationwide investigations targeting pharmaceutical opioid manufacturers and distributors. From 2022 to 2024, he served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Baton Rouge District Office, where he was also responsible for overseeing operations across the majority of Louisiana.
SAC Hofer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Marketing and a minor in Military Science from Missouri Western State University. He also earned a Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri St. Louis.
Beyond his professional achievements, SAC Hofer is a dedicated family man, married with three sons. His unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and upholding the law makes him a highly respected and effective leader within the DEA.
