29 Lbs “Ice” Methamphetamine Seized From Local Trucking Company; 4 Arrested
Street Value of Seized Methamphetamine Over $1 Million

APR 2 -- COTATI – Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent in Charge Javier F. Peña, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent in Charge Charlene B. Thornton, and Sonoma County Sheriff William Cogbill announced today the seizure of approximately 29 pounds “ice” methamphetamine, 1 ounce cocaine, 1 pound marijuana, three assault rifles, two shotguns and three handguns. Miguel Murillo-Dominguez, 42, Miguel Murillo Jr., 23, Elia Murillo, 42, all of Sebastopol and Florentino Gonzalez, 49, of Santa Rosa, were arrested in connection with the investigation.

Approximately two months ago, DEA, FBI, and the Sonoma County Narcotics Task Force (SCNTF) identified a methamphetamine trafficking organization operating from Discovery Transportation, a trucking company, located at 368 Blodgett Street, #4, in Cotati. Law enforcement believed the organization was distributing methamphetamine throughout California. As a result, an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) case was initiated in conjunction with the United States Attorney’s Office in San Francisco and the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office.

“This substantial seizure of drugs and weapons illustrates the dangers associated with drug trafficking. These individuals in the ‘trucking’ business have now been transported to a place where the citizens of Sonoma County can all feel a little safer, jail,” stated DEA Special Agent in Charge Javier F. Peña.

The investigation culminated on April 1, 2008, when agents served two state authorized search warrants. The first warrant was served at Discovery Transportation where law enforcement seized approximately 29 lbs. “ice” methamphetamine. (Ice is a term used described the appearance of the methamphetamine, which resembles shards of ice or glass. Methamphetamine in this form is marketed as better quality and is typically smoked.) At the business, law enforcement arrested Miguel Murillo-Dominguez, Miguel Murillo Jr. and Florentine Gonzalez. The second search warrant was subsequently served at the residence of Murillo-Dominguez located at 1075 Sholem Lane, Sebastopol. As a result of this search warrant, agents seized approximately 1 ounce cocaine, 1 pound marijuana, three assault rifles, two shotguns and three handguns and arrested Elia Murillo, wife of Miguel Murillo-Dominguez. All arrests and searches were conducted without incident.

Law enforcement believes the seized “ice” methamphetamine was destined for the Sonoma County area. The street value of the methamphetamine is approximately $1.3 million.

Murillo-Dominguez, Murillo Jr., and Gonzalez were charged with California Health and Safety Code violations of transportation of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a controlled substance for sale. Elia Murillo was charged with California Health and Safety Code violation of possession of a controlled substance.

The Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting this case. All defendants must be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
