59 Arrests in San Diego, California
MAR 24 -- (San Diego) This morning San Diego Field Division DEA MET, in conjunction with San Diego Police officers and investigators from other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies served several arrest and search warrants at various locations in San Diego County. This was the culmination of a six-month, multi-agency investigation dubbed “Operation Winter Storm.” At this point in the investigation, 59 suspects have been arrested of which 47 are documented gang members.
“Operation Winter Storm” began in September 2009 through the efforts of DEA/Mobile Enforcement Team (MET) and Team 3 of the SDPD Street Gang Unit. The targets of this operation are local street gang members who were involved in various crimes including homicides, gang related shootings, drug and weapons trafficking, robberies, and weapons violations. Arrests have been ongoing during this investigation. The majority of the suspects arrested were gang members and associates supplying narcotics to various gangs within the City of San Diego.
Overall, “Operation Winter Storm” resulted in 53 arrests and confiscation of the following contraband: 16 firearms, 2 ounces of powder cocaine, 1 lb of crack cocaine, 1 ½ lbs of methamphetamine, and more than 200 ecstasy tablets.
“Operation Winter Storm” involved a collaborative effort on the part of the following agencies: DEA MET, San Diego Police Department, the US Attorney’s Office, SD County Probation, the SD County District Attorney’s Office (SDCDA), and the US Marshal’s Service.
