DEA Announces New Phoenix Division Chief
Elizabeth W. Kempshall appointed as the new Special Agent-In-Charge

OCT 10 - ( Phoenix, AZ) – The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) today announced that Elizabeth W. Kempshall has been appointed as the Special Agent-In-Charge of the Phoenix Division. Mrs. Kempshall comes to Phoenix from Houston, Texas, where she led the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Strike Force. The Strike Force consisted of over 100 agents, state and local investigators responsible for identifying, targeting and dismantling some of the country’s most sophisticated and powerful narcotics trafficking organizations.

"I am honored to be selected as the Special Agent-in-Charge,” Kempshall said. “I look forward to working with our community leaders, and continuing to strengthen partnerships with our federal, state and local law enforcement counterparts in the fight against drugs. I look forward to living in Arizona and being a part of this community.”

A native of Georgia, where she graduated from Brenau College in Gainesville,

Mrs. Kempshall began her DEA career in 1984 as a Special Agent in the Las Vegas District Office where she worked as an undercover agent in several major drug investigations.

In 1988, Mrs. Kempshall was transferred to the Los Angeles Field Division where she was assigned to the Los Angeles Police Department Drug Task Force and later to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Group. In 1991, Mrs. Kempshall was reassigned to the DEA International Training Division in Quantico, Virginia where she taught drug enforcement courses to law enforcement agencies in Asia, Africa, South America and Europe.

Mrs. Kempshall has served in a variety of assignments during her DEA career and brings a wealth of national and international drug law enforcement experience to her new position.

In addition to serving in Las Vegas and Houston, she has also held positions in DEA offices in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, DEA’s Office of Professional Responsibility (Internal Affairs) in Plantation, Florida and at DEA headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Kempshall’s prior experience in the Southern District of Texas made her the natural choice to lead the Phoenix Division. Her extensive knowledge of major Mexican drug trafficking organizations, U.S.-Mexico Border initiatives and partnerships with State and Local Task Forces will bring strong leadership talents to the Phoenix Division.
