Schenectady Heroin Dealer Sentenced to 60 Months

JUL 22 (ALBANY, N.Y.) - Jorge Rivas-Rivera, 47, of Schenectady, New York, was sentenced today to serve 60 months in prison after being convicted of distributing heroin.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian and Special Agent in Charge James J. Hunt, New York Division, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

U.S. District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino also sentenced Rivas-Rivera to serve six years of supervised release, to begin upon his release from prison.

On March 24, Rivas-Rivera pleaded guilty to selling heroin in Schenectady in May and July 2014.

This case was investigated by the DEA and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Barnett.
