The investigation was launched by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Task Force in August of 2008 after receiving information about widespread heroin distribution in the A. The Prosecutor’s Task Force joined forces with the Jersey City Police Department and Drug Enforcement Administration, New Jersey Division, which allowed for an efficient and effective allocation of law enforcement resources.
Police believed the organization sold over $20,000.00 of heroin per week in and around the public housing complexes, as well as the Jersey City area. To date, the investigation has led to 35 arrests. Bruce, Shannon, Wooten, Clark, Abdullah, Colon and Brady were arrested last week and charged in a federal indictment with Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, contrary to Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(A). The seven arrested last week will be prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office, District of New Jersey. The federal case will be handled by Assistant United States Attorney Robert L. Frazer. The remaining 28 defendants will be prosecuted for state narcotics charges by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutor De Fazio credited the following agencies that were instrumental in this successful investigation: the United States Attorney’s Office, District of New Jersey, under the leadership of Acting U.S. Attorney Ralph J. Marra, Jr.; the United States Drug Enforcement Administration under the leadership of Special Agent in Charge Gerard P. McAleer; the Jersey City Police Department under the leadership of Chief Thomas J. Comey; and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office under the leadership of Prosecutor Paula T. Dow.
The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C. 3.6(b)(6).
