Texas Man Sentenced to More Than 10 Years for Methamphetamine Trafficking

JUL 28 (ORLANDO, Fla.) –A.D. Wright, Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Miami Field Division, announced that U.S. District Judge Gregory A. Presnell has sentenced Alvaro De La Torre-Valdez (42, Dayton, TX) to 10 years and five months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.  He pleaded guilty on April 3, 2015.

According to court documents, Torre-Valdez was a member of a drug trafficking organization responsible for transporting methamphetamine from Texas to Central Florida. In October 2014, he arranged to conceal three kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in the spare tire of a car and transport it from his home in Texas to Florida.  A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper stopped the car near Ocala, Florida.  During the traffic stop, a trained drug detection dog alerted on the car and approximately three kilograms of crystal methamphetamine were recovered from inside the spare tire of the car.

This case was investigated by the DEA Orlando District Office.  It was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
