Colombian North Valley Cartel Leader to Appear in Federal Court in Miami to Face Narcotics Trafficking Charges

MIAMI - Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Miami Field Division and Wifredo A. Ferrer, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida announced today that Jaime Alberto Marin-Zamora , a/k/a “Beto Marin,” one of the leaders of the Colombian North Valley cartel, was arrested in Margarita Island, Venezuela, on September 16, 2010.  Marin-Zamora is expected to make his initial appearance in federal court in Miami tomorrow afternoon.

Marin-Zamora was indicted in the Southern District of Florida on February 12, 2009, on a charge of conspiracy to distribute thousands of kilograms of cocaine in Colombia with the knowledge that it would be imported into the United States, in violation of Title 21 United States Code, Sections 959(a) and 963.  If convicted, Marin-Zamora faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
