Major Drug Round-Up in Columbia County

SEP 5 -- Mark R. Trouville, Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Miami Field Division, James R. Klindt, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida and Bill Gootee, Sheriff, Columbia County Sheriff's Office, announced the collapse of a major drug ring as dozens of federal, state and local law enforcement agents rounded up four of seven individuals wanted on federal drug charges and twelve individuals wanted on state drug charges.

This two-year long investigation looked into the distribution of both powder and crack cocaine in Columbia County. During the investigation numerous undercover purchases of cocaine were made in Columbia County. Search warrants were executed at two Lake City residences. Agents and deputies seized crack cocaine, $5,000 cash, three vehicles, and three guns (including an AK-47).

The investigation was conducted by the DEA Jacksonville District Office, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the North Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Lake City Police Department and the State Attorney's Office, Florida 3rd Judicial Circuit. Also assisting in the case was the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
