DEA Announces Significant Methamphetamine Seizure in Colorado Springs
Agents seize seven pounds of meth and arrest four defendants

COLORADO SPRINGS, Col o. – Barbra M. Roach, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Denver Field Division, announced the seizure of seven pounds of methamphetamine and the arrest of four defendants that occurred today in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  The following four defendants are facing felony drug charges in Colorado Springs State Court, 4 th Judicial District:  Vicente Martinez, 40, of Salinas, California; Jovel Cristian, 27, of Los Angeles, California; Martin Martinez, 21, of Los Angeles, California; and Rafael Amezcua, 27, of Los Angeles, California. 

Today’s arrests were made after agents developed information that a large shipment of methamphetamine had been transported to Colorado Springs from California by the defendants.  After locating the defendants at a local motel in Colorado Springs, a search of their vehicle was conducted that resulted in the seizure of seven pounds of methamphetamine that was concealed in a hidden compartment.

This investigation was conducted by members of the DEA Southern Colorado Drug Task Force, which is comprised of agents from the DEA, Colorado Springs Police Department, El Paso County Sheriff’s Department, Pueblo Police Department, Pueblo County Sheriff’s Department, Colorado State Patrol, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

This seizure is one of several recent methamphetamine seizures made by the DEA Southern Colorado Drug Task Force.  Since October 2011, the Drug Task Force has seized 70 pounds of methamphetamine and arrested 24 defendants.
