Springfield Man Sentenced on Drug Charges

JUL 15 -- SPRINGFIELD, MA - A Springfield man was sentenced today in U.S. District Court for
conspiracy and drug distribution charges.

Kevin L. Lane, Acting Special Agent inCharge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - New England Field Division and United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan, announcedtoday that FILIBERTO GUZMAN, age 38, of Hickory Street, Springfield, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ponsor to 15 years imprisonment, to be followed by eight years of supervised release. GUZMAN pled guilty to Conspiracy, Distribution and Possession with intent to Distribute Heroin and Distribution and Possession with intent to Distribute Cocaine on May 30, 2008.

At the earlier plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that had the case proceeded to trial the Government’s evidence would have proven that during 2006, Guzman, his codefendants and others worked together to purchase wholesale quantities of heroin and cocaine and to re-sell heroin, cocaine, and cocaine base in smaller units on the streets of Springfield and elsewhere in western Massachusetts. The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
