William T. McDermott (Tim) was appointed as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Denver Field Division on January 12, 2018. In that role, he oversees all of DEA’s enforcement, intelligence, administrative, and regulatory activities in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. The Denver Field Division is comprised of 11 offices and 400 employees; including Special Agents, Diversion Investigators, Intelligence Analysts, Task Force Officers, Professional Staff, and Contractors. 

Prior to his appointment to the Denver Field Division, Mr. McDermott was promoted to the Senior Executive Service in 2017 and served as the Deputy Chief Inspector overseeing the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). Mr. McDermott has also served in many other leadership positions during his distinguished career at DEA. From 2014 to 2017, Mr. McDermott was assigned to the DEA St. Louis Field Division as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge; where he was responsible for overseeing all enforcement operations in the St. Louis metropolitan area. In 2013, Mr. McDermott was promoted to Section Chief of the Office of Operations Management, Security and Emergency Planning (OME). In that same year, Mr. McDermott was reassigned to Office of Global Operations where he served as the Executive Assistant to DEA’s Chief of Operations. In that role he supported DEA’s global drug enforcement programs in 227 domestic offices and 86 foreign offices in 67 countries. 

From 2011 to 2013, Mr. McDermott was assigned to DEA Headquarters’ Special Operations Division (SOD), Pharmaceutical, Chemical, and Internet Investigations Section (OSI), where he coordinated global investigations targeting drug trafficking organizations responsible for cyber trafficking, pre-cursor chemicals and pharmaceutical/synthetic drugs destined for importation and distribution throughout the United States. 

From 2006 to 2011, Mr. McDermott held the position of Group Supervisor in the Albany, New York District Office. There he led the DEA State and Local Task Force, a cornerstone of the division’s enforcement strategy to combat the impact of drug trafficking organizations and the ongoing drug-related gang violence plaguing the Northern District of New York. 

Over his more than 22 years of experience, Mr. McDermott has gained a reputation as an enforcement driven drug law enforcement professional.
