Special Agent in Charge, New Orleans Division
Bradford L. Byerley was appointed as the Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Field Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in March 2019. As the Special Agent in Charge, Mr. Byerley is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of eighteen offices in the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas.
Mr. Byerley previously served as the Associate Special Agent in Charge of the New Orleans Field Division from October 2018 to March 2019. In that role, he was not only responsible for over 550 employees in the Division but was instrumental in creating several new posts of duty as well as the newly formed OCDETF Strike Force in New Orleans.
Mr. Byerley served as Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Baton Rouge District Office from June 2016 to October 2018. While serving in that role, he was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of all enforcement groups in the offices of Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Monroe, Lafayette and Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Mr. Byerley also served in a variety of other positions within DEA, including Section Chief in the Office of Operations Management Investigation Support Section from October 2015 to June 2016. While serving as Section Chief, he provided leadership and direction to multiple DEA programs that support ongoing domestic field operations and enforcement efforts. These programs included the DEA State and Local Task Force Program, the Domestic Cannabis Eradication Suppression Program (DCE/SP), the newly formed Cover Support Unit, the Title 21 (Cross Designation) program, the FBI Reverse Undercover Program and the Fugitive and Prisoner Repatriation Program. He was also the DEA HQ liaison to the Department of Homeland Security-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (DHS/ICE). This responsibility covered the cross designation of nearly 5,000 ICE Special Agents.
Mr. Byerley was assigned as the Unit Chief of the Office of Global Enforcement Executive Support Unit from June 2015 to October 2015. While serving in this capacity his responsibilities entailed the preparation of briefing materials and talking points for the DEA Administrator, Deputy Administrator, Chief of Operations and Deputy Chiefs of Operations.
Mr. Byerley served as Resident Agent in Charge of the Chattanooga Resident Office from March 2011 to June 2015. As such, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of all enforcement operations and activities spanning a 17 county area in Southeastern Tennessee and 17 counties in Northern Georgia.
Mr. Byerley served as Group Supervisor of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force at the Albuquerque District Office from March 2009 to March 2011, where he directed the enforcement and operational activities of the HIDTA Task Force Group.
Mr. Byerley served from September 2005 to March 2009 at the DEA Vienna Country Office as an Assistant Country Attaché where his primary responsibility was the direct contact and resident expert on narcotics related investigations for over 25 foreign drug law enforcement agencies in Europe.
Mr. Byerley began his career with DEA in January 1999 in the St. Louis Field Division, where he worked numerous investigations in a Complex Conspiracy Group, a Federal Violent Crimes Drug Task Force and the Methamphetamine Clandestine Lab Group.
Mr. Byerley is a native of Alabama, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Mr. Byerley is also a veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, as well as the American Embassies in Beijing, China and Vienna, Austria.
