JAN 18 -- In an effort to continue its Anti-Meth Initiative throughout the State of New Jersey, Gerard P. McAleer, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New Jersey Division, presented a one day Methamphetamine Safety and Awareness Course for First Responders conducted by members of the Drug Enforcement Administration, New Jersey Division at the Middlesex County Police and Fire Academy located in Sayreville, New Jersey.

Joining the attendees for the training were two congressional staff members from Congressmen Christopher H. Smith (R-4th) and Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-6th).

This training program is designed to prepare the police officer, firefighter, EMT, prevention, treatment, school personnel and faith based organizations to recognize specialized problems and hazards associated with the production of methamphetamine. Topics which were discussed include History and Effects of Methamphetamine, Emerging Trends in Methamphetamine Production, Fentanyl Update, Clandestine Laboratories Awareness, and Public Awareness. The objective of this course is to enable the first responder emergency personnel to be able to recognize and identify a methamphetamine or clandestine laboratory while answering a fire, medical, or other emergency call and apply techniques for overall safety.
