Memorandum

Subject:
Ombudsman Implementation Policy: (FFS 060-06)

Date:
April 05 2002

To:
All DEA Employees

From:
Asa Hutchinson
Administrator

On March 28, 2002, I announced that Retha M. Fulmore was appointed to the newly established Ombudsman position to the Deputy Administrator. I am pleased to provide you with the implementing policy for the Drug Enforcement Agency's (DEA) Office of the Ombudsman.

The purpose of this program is to provide an informal alternative dispute resolution to address workplace conflicts for employees, supervisors, and managers. It is a confidential alternative program that encourages resolution of issues informally at an early stage. The Ombudsperson will provide an impartial process to facilitate fair and equitable resolutions to concerns that arise within DEA. The Ombudsperson will serve as an advisor and an information and communications resource to address and review options available to employees, supervisors, and managers.

This program is available to all employees, supervisors, and managers of DEA. Participants in this program is voluntary. The Ombudsperson will provide a listening ear that can help with many concerns and dilemmas that confront employees, supervisors, and managers in the workplace. This program does not replace other avenues for addressing issues, but does provide a safe place to resolve conflicts early in the process.

Attached is the policy statement implementing this program. If you need additional information, you can contact Ms. Fulmore at 202-307-5519.
